What is Stories on Stage?
Stories on Stage is PYT's program for adapting beloved children's literature into short, accessible stage performances. Each production runs about 35–45 minutes — long enough to tell a real story, short enough for our youngest audience members to stay engaged.
The annual company casts about 16–20 young performers (ages 8–14) through a single audition each September. Cast members don't appear in every production — instead, each actor is cast in 1–3 shows across the year, based on the role fit and on calendar conflicts you tell us about upfront. This gives our young actors a real season's worth of experience, while keeping the weekly rehearsal commitment manageable.
Stories on Stage performs in our Studio Theatre for the public, and tours to schools, libraries, and community spaces throughout the year. It's how we reach the youngest audiences in our community — and how our company members learn what it means to be a working ensemble.
